Fennville Tire Center has“ GONE GREEN”!

Taking pride in the care and future of the environment is something the staff takes very seriously.

Owner/operator Steve Valkema explained that "We invested in a specially designed furnace that heats the entire garage with recycled oil.  The oil that otherwise would contaminate the environment, is filtered and burned at a specified temperature causing complete combustion to take place assuring that no pollutants are exhausted into the atmosphere". Valkema added, "That we all have a responsibility to protect the environment, and this is a win-win for us and the environment"!


Fennville Tire Center encourages the do-it-yourselfer to drop off their recycled oil anytime during normal business hours.

Steve began working at the shop as a teenager, left to serve as a U.S. Marine, and rejoined the family business upon his return. Steve is proud to be a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. and in the true meaning of Semper Fi (Always Faithful), Fennville Tire Center offers a 10% discount to those of you that have served in the armed forces!

Fennville Tire Center is a third generation, family owned business, originally named Bill's Tire Shop, after Steve Valkema's grandfather Bill Valkema. The shop was located in Holland, MI in the 1930's. In 1965 the business was moved to Fennville, where the Post Office now stands. In 1987, Bill's Tire Shop was relocated to its current location of 205 West Main, and renamed Fennville Tire Center.

Growing up in this family owned business allowed Steve to start young, under the watchful eye and tutelage of both his grandfather, William and father, Alan. Starting young gave Steve the advantage on the competition, learning the mechanical side of the business as well as the business operations end. In 1988, the reins were taken over by grandson and son Steve Valkema. Steve takes the responsibility of carrying on this third generation family owned business very seriously, knowing that he has a reputation to uphold for the generations past, present and future!

Steve, his wife, Amy and their son, William, reside in the Fennville Area. Fennville Tire Center takes pride in supporting the local community including the Fennville schools, sponsoring the annual Fennville Tire Antique Car Show, sponsorship of the Fennville Goose Festival, a member of the Greater Fennville Chamber of Commerce and Steve serves as a member of Fennville Downtown Development Authority. 
 
Greg Crippin, a graduate of Fennville High School as well as a graduate of the Grand Rapids Community College's automotive program and an ASE State Certified Mechanic. He  has been employed at Fennville Tire Center for 4-1/2 years. Greg and his fiance live in Fennville

Another generation of Valkema’s, Steve’s cousin, Ben is on hand to provide general automotive service at Fennville Tire Center. Ben is a graduate of Hamilton High School and is currently attending  the automotive program at Grand Rapids Community College, and has been employed at Fennville tire Center for 3-1/2 years.
